INVITATION
The third international conference focusing on worldwide
issues of research and academic networking--INET'93--is
scheduled for August 17-20, 1993 in San Francisco,
California, USA. University, industry and government
representatives from around the world are invited to
meet and discuss important issues related to planning,
implementing, managing and funding national, regional,
and international networks.

Dear Colleague,
As we began planning the INET'93 conference, we set as
a goal to build upon the very successful INET'92
conference held last year in Kobe and achieve a quantum
leap in participation, breadth, impact and visibility.
As the date for INET'93 approaches, we are hopeful that
these objectives will be met.

This year, we will meet in San Francisco. Beyond its
reputation as one of the most charming cities in the
world, it also happens to be located some 40 miles north
of the heart of Silicon Valley, the birthplace of many
organizations in the commercial, public and educational
sectors who have helped pioneer the technologies and
concepts on which the Internet is built and keeps
growing today. INET'93 takes place at a time when the
data networking industry is enjoying an unprecedented
rate of expansion worldwide and when the new U.S.
administration is beginning its work on the National
Information Infrastructure. It would have been hard to
host a technical conference centered on a more relevant
topic to people's hopes and aspirations.

I have been fortunate to benefit from the help and
advice of a first-rate conference committee, including
Program co-chairs Barry Leiner and William Yundt. Let me
also acknowledge the group of Contributor or Sponsor
organizations whose financial support have matched our
ambitious growth objectives. I look forward to seeing

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION AND HOTEL RESERVATIONS
All participants are encouraged to register before July
1 to receive the reduced advanced registration fees!

Please complete the enclosed registration form and
return it, with a check payable in U.S. dollars or
credit card information, by mail to the address
listed on the form.  Email and fax registrations
will be accepted if paying by a credit card only.

The registration form also serves as a reservation for
hotel accommodations.  In order to reserve a hotel room,
either complete the credit card authorization section on
the registration form, or include 1 night's fee along
with the registration fee, payable by check in U.S.
dollars.

Several exciting optional tours have been arranged, as
described later.  A separate form is enclosed and should
be mailed, along with full payment, directly to the tour
company.

A Registration and Information desk will be open at the
Hyatt Regency Hotel in San Francisco beginning Monday,
August 16, 1993 and extending through the conference
period.

CONFIRMATION OF REGISTRATION
A letter confirming conference registration and hotel
accommodations will be sent to each participant upon
receipt of the completed registration form and
accompanying payment. This letter should be presented at
the Registration Desk at the Hyatt Regency Hotel upon
arrival.

REGISTRATION FEES COVER
The registration fees cover attendance at all conference
sessions. Also included are the Opening Reception, San
Francisco Bay Cruise, and "Streets of San Francisco" at
the Justin Herman Plaza, luncheons, coffee breaks, and
conference materials including the program with
abstracts and other conference publications.

The fee for an accompanying person includes the Opening
Reception,San Francisco Bay Cruise, and "Streets of San
Francisco" at the Justin Herman Plaza. Attendance at the
conference sessions is not included in this fee.

PAYMENT OF FEES
All payments must be in United States dollars. Cash,
bank draft, wire transfer and international credit cards
(MasterCard, Visa and American Express) are acceptable.
Personal checks will not be accepted unless drawn on
U.S. banks.  Please select payment method and provide

Fall, which will be held at the Moscone Center in San
Francisco the week following INET'93.  To receive the
discount, please present your INET'93 registration badge
at the INTEROP registration desk in Moscone Center.

INTEROP is the world's leading forum for the
presentation of internetworking products and services.
More than 450 firms are expected to exhibit in San
Francisco. An extensive program of technical sessions is
also available, along with numerous tutorials.

NETWORK TRAINING WORKSHOP FOR TECHNOLOGICALLY-EMERGING
COUNTRIES
In conjunction with the INET'93 Conference, the
Internet Society is sponsoring a workshop for networking
training for developing countries prior to the
conference itself.  The workshop will be held at
Stanford University during August 10-17, 1993.

An intensive program of instruction is planned for each
of three program tracks:
1)    Basic technical transport training
2)    Advanced technical transport training
3)    Network navigation and services training

In addition to undergoing technical training and
laboratory work, participants in all three tracks will
have an opportunity to have dinner and spend an evening
with a host family in the Silicon Valley area, as well
as visit selected computing firms in the San Francisco
area.

In the case of cancellation, WRITTEN (postal, fax, or
electronic) notification must be sent to the

PASSPORT AND VISA REQUIREMENTS
All foreign visitors entering the United States must
possess a valid passport. Participants requiring a visa
should apply IMMEDIATELY to United States consular
offices or diplomatic missions in their countries in
order to avoid delay in travel to the conference.

CLIMATE AND CLOTHING
The weather in San Francisco is usually mild, with
average temperatures of 65F- 54F (18C-12C). A few
of the social events are outdoors, so it is recommended
to bring a jacket or sweater for the evening events as
the fog can roll in unexpectedly, turning the weather to
windy and cool quite quickly.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE AND TRAVELER'S CHECKS
It is recommended that participants purchase traveler's
checks in U.S. dollars before leaving their own
countries. The Registration Desk at the Hyatt will
accept cash in U.S. dollars ONLY. Foreign currency can

The Essential City Tour (1:00 PM-5:00 PM)

one of the best loved cities of the world, including:
Chinatown, Union Square, the stately Civic Center,
Golden Gate Bridge and a variety of vistas and views of
this unique metropolis. A professional Riser/Almeida

narration throughout the tour.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18
Muir Woods/Sausalito (9:00 AM-1:00 PM)
$29 per person
Your first stop will be Muir Woods National Park, home
of some of the world's tallest trees. You will walk
among the 200 foot high, thousand year-old redwoods, as
well as a variety of other botanical curiosities. Next
you will proceed to the quaint waterfront town of
Sausalito, known for its artists in residence,
galleries, cafes and shops. You may choose to return in
your deluxe private van or on your own by ferry.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 18, AND FRIDAY, AUGUST 20
Alcatraz (1:00 PM-5:00 PM)

A short cruise brings you to Alcatraz, one of the most
popular tours of San Francisco. A brief slide show with
narration with be shown, after which you will explore
the cell blocks on your own, with the aid of a headset
audio program narrated by former cellmates and officers.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 19
Day in the Wine Country (9:00 AM-5:00 PM)
$45 per person
Napa and Sonoma Counties are the most popular of the
California wine region. A professional guide will
introduce you to the secrets of winemaking and the art
of wine tastings as well as point out areas of interest
along the route. You will have the opportunity to visit
two renowned wineries and enjoy luncheon on your own
before returning to San Francisco.

A fun day is in store in this exciting marine and animal
park. With a blend of education and entertainment Marine
World brings people and wildlife closer together!

Water Ski and Boat show and the one-of-a-kind playground
for kids. A picnic lunch is included. Adult chaperones

SATURDAY, AUGUST 21
Monterey/Carmel & Monterey Bay Aquarium (8:00 AM-6:00
PM)
$58/adult, $51/child (3P12 years)
Please note: Children must be accompanied by parent or
guardian.
Travel over the Santa Cruz Mountains for the two and
one-half hour ride along the coast to historic Monterey.
You will pass along the exclusive Seventeen-Mile Drive
for spectacular views of the rocky coves, champion golf
courses, windblown cypresses, and multimillion dollar
seafront homes. Charming Carmel will follow and time
will be available to browse in the town's many unique
specialty shops and have luncheon on your own. Next, we
will visit the noted Cannery Row and Fisherman's Wharf.
Your tour includes a visit to the famous Monterey Bay
Aquarium where you will have a chance to see sea otters
at play and view life under the California kelp forest.

Payment Policy for August 17-21 Tours: Full payment must
be received by July 1, 1993, to confirm your
reservation. Request for refunds must be received 10

required for the operation of tours. Full refunds will

LAKE TAHOE EXCURSION
This week-end excursion to the largest alpine lake in
North America will be an ideal time to sail, water ski,
fish, golf, hike, go horseback or bicycle riding, or
just relax on Tahoe's sunny beaches.

Deluxe motorcoach transportation will take you on a four
hour drive through the majestic peaks of the Sierra
Nevada range. Located on the Nevada/California border,
your vacation continues around the clock at the South
Shore casinos with headliner entertainment and gourmet
dining.

Two nights' deluxe accommodations will be at America's
highest rated hotel/casino, Harrah's Tahoe. A 65,000
square foot casino, nightly entertainment and six
tempting restaurants make this resort someplace special.
Your personal tour guide will be available throughout
the weekend to assist with arrangements for recreational
activities. Deluxe motorcoach transportation will be
provided for the Sunday, August 22nd return to San
Francisco.
